Dear Reader,

In a moving documentary, TrueCopy Think brings the story of Chamikkutti from Palakkad, who is running from pillar to post to get justice for the sufferings of about a hundred families, the victims of ‘Endosulfan’ spraying on the cashew plantation in Mannarkkad years ago. The spraying which required extraordinary safety procedures was done without even basic precautions in place. This cruel insensitivity has maimed and devastated the lives of many, including Chamikkutti’s own son.

The abysmal state of the medical infrastructure in rural India is no secret. However, Main Media’s ground report from Dighalbank block of Kishanganj district in Bihar tells you that the ground reality is beyond telling. A hospital built just five years ago is now a ruin with doctors and medicines nowhere in sight.

In another ground report, Mojo Story brings you the tale of how technology is transforming apple farming in Kashmir. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence on a mobile app - Apple Doc - which uses satellite data to provide information on the prospective weather, soil health and optimum fertiliser usage, to raise the bar for Kashmir’s apple economy and the farmers.

And, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be held in Beijing on October 16, with Xi Jinping all set to be elected for a historic third term as the general secretary and consolidate his hitherto unquestioned power. The India Forum reports that behind Xi’s quest for “common prosperity”, as the omnibus tonic for China’s rise and power, lie many challenges. The high price of the harsh Covid containment, banking and real estate sector collapses, the increasing discontent among workers, along with growing regional inequities, bedevil Xi’s 'new deal’ for China.
